Big 12 Basketball Standings Update: Contenders Rising, Bubble Teams Fading

As the 2025–26 college basketball regular season enters its final stretch, the Big 12 once again stands as one of the deepest and most competitive conferences in the nation. With most teams having fewer than ten games remaining, the race for NCAA Tournament bids is intensifying, especially for those hovering on the bubble.

At the top, Arizona continues to set the pace, sitting at 10–1 in conference play and 23–1 overall. The Wildcats have been the most consistent team on both ends of the floor and remain a projected No. 1 seed despite a recent slip.

Houston and Kansas remain strong contenders, both showing elite balance and the ability to win close games. Houston sits at 10–1 (22–2 overall) with a five‑game winning streak, while Kansas follows closely at 9–2 (19–5 overall), currently riding an impressive eight‑game winning streak. These teams look like locks not only for the NCAA Tournament but for high seeds.

Iowa State and Texas Tech round out the upper tier, with Iowa State posting an 8–3 conference record and 21–3 overall, while Texas Tech sits at 7–3 and 17–6. Both have shown the defensive toughness and late‑game poise needed for March success, though Iowa State recently dropped a conference matchup, briefly halting their momentum.

Teams Playing Their Way In

Programs such as BYU (18–6), UCF (17–6), West Virginia (15–9), and TCU (15–9) are all in solid position as of now. Their records put them safely in the "should be in" category, but each has had streaky stretches this season. BYU and UCF have both been hovering around .500 in conference play, meaning one or two big wins down the stretch could solidify their résumés. West Virginia and TCU need a lot of help.

Long Shots

Teams fighting to stay relevant in the tournament conversation. Oklahoma State (16–8), Colorado (14–10), and Cincinnati (12–12) all sit at 4–7 in conference play, leaving little margin for error. Oklahoma State has dropped two straight and needs a strong finishing run to climb back into at‑large consideration.

Who knows, only time will tell!
